Help take the burden off your loved ones by making your end-of-life
decisions in advance.

Many people don't like to discuss funeral arrangements with anyone, because the subject carries many emotions for all of us. It reminds us that we will all have to face death sooner or later. We tend to shove the subject of funerals aside when speaking with our loved ones, because we don't want anything bad to ever happen to them.

The truth is, planning ahead is crucial in making quality decisions that will affect our loved ones. "I wish I knew what mom wanted", don't let this be what your children say. Make a plan and let your loved ones know what your wishes are.

There are several ways in which to pre-plan/prefund a funeral, some people will use traditional life insurance as their source for funeral funding, however this may not be the best idea, especially since it takes a while to file a claim. A guaranteed funeral contract with a funeral home that places your funds into an insurance trust is quite possibly the best way to go. Funeral planning, a touchy subject.

Funeral Planning, The Facts

As a funeral director I have sat across from hundreds of families. Helping those whose loved one had pre-planned their funeral and others that didn't. I have to say, the families that found out that their loved one had pre-planned their funeral were quite a bit more relaxed and thankful than the ones who had not.

In a 2010 survey conducted by the National Funeral Directors Association, 66 percent of adults would choose to arrange their own funeral service, but only 25 percent have already made them, according to Jessica Koth of the NFDA, based in Wisconsin.

Pre-planning your funeral can....

  • Relieve stress on family during an already difficult time.

  • Ease the financial burden on your loved ones (if it's pre-paid)

  • Lock in costs

  • Makes your wishes known (ie. cremation, burial, memorial service, etc.)

  • Personalize the way you want.

There are many different ways you can personalize your service. A traditional funeral usually takes place at a place of worship, funeral home chapel or at the graveside. In addition memorials can be done at schools, parks, or even at a home.
